WELCOME BACK!
Thank you for your interest in joining us at our seminar and helping to support Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid
We are excited to be back in 2024 after re-launching our Lying, Cheating, and Stealing seminar in 2022. LCS was originally conceived by Joe Anthony as a way to bring together great legal minds to share innovative approaches and strategies for handling lawsuits involving the liars, cheaters and stealers that are frequently closer than you think!
This year we’re bringing back both our Judges Panel and our GC Panel and have once again packed the schedule with amazing presenters from seven local firms. We’re excited to share this all with you in a packed one-day seminar.
In connection with this event, we have committed to match the $15 fee of everyone who registers and attends the seminar and contribute it to Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid.
ALL REGISTRATION FEES WILL BE MATCHED BY ANTHONY OSTLUND & CONTRIBUTED TO MID-MINNESOTA LEGAL AID

Inside the “Feeding Our Future” Pandemic Relief Fraud Trial
Speakers: Steve Schleicher and Clayton Carlson (Maslon LLP)
On September 20, 2022, the Department of Justice announced criminal charges against 47 defendants in an alleged $250 million fraud scheme said to be the largest pandemic relief fraud scheme in the nation. Trial began on April 22, 2024 for a group of seven individuals associated with what the U.S. Attorney’s Office called a “brazen scheme of staggering proportions” at the federal courthouse in Minneapolis. Against the backdrop of public outrage and intense pretrial publicity, a Minnesota federal jury heard testimony over the course of six weeks before delivering a mixed verdict of 5 convictions and 2 complete acquittals. Attorneys Steve Schleicher and Clayton Carlson of Maslon LLP defended Said Farah, who was acquitted of all charges. Steve and Clayton will discuss their successful strategies for defending this high-profile case, which proved to be unusual from start to finish – and beyond. [1.0 Standard CLE]
