Congratulations to shareholder Ryan Lawrence who has been named an Up & Coming Attorney for 2024. This is a well-deserved honor for Ryan who has been a key member of our firm since he joined us in 2017.
Ryan’s practice focuses on complex business disputes, including cases involving employees alleged to have breached duties owed to their former employers, such as theft of trade secrets. Ryan has successfully represented clients across multiple economic sectors, including healthcare, technology, energy, entertainment, transportation and logistics, and real estate.
Recently, Ryan was a member of trial team that obtained the largest jury verdict in Minnesota history on behalf of Trustee Douglas A. Kelley in Kelley v. BMO Harris Bank, N.A.—a role which included cross-examining the Bank’s first witness and taking the lead in preparing Kelley’s banking expert. The jury determined that BMO Harris Bank aided and abetted breaches of fiduciary duty by Tom Petters and his co-conspirators in connection with a massive Ponzi scheme and awarded the Trustee $563 million, including $79.5 million in punitive damages.
“Ryan’s work in the Kelley case–and in many other cases that I have had the opportunity to work closely with him–is exceptional. He is an intelligent, creative, and efficient attorney—diverse in his legal knowledge and well-liked by clients and colleagues alike. The Minnesota legal community is lucky to have Ryan practicing in Minnesota.” –Janel Dressen, Shareholder & CEO, Anthony Ostlund.
Ryan remains active in the Twin Cities legal community. During the spring 2023 and spring 2024 semesters, Ryan was appointed as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Minnesota Law School to teach Civil Litigation: Case Development and Discovery Practice. Ryan is dedicated to contributing to legal aid and other community causes and is a Hennepin County Bar Foundation Fellow.
Ryan graduated magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2015 and was a member of the Order of the Coif. During law school, he served as a Managing Editor of the Minnesota Law Review.
