On Monday, November 13, 2017, the Minnesota Court of Appeals ruled in favor of Janel Dressen and Aren Olson’s clients in Open Meeting Law litigation that has been pending for more than three years.
Current and former Victoria City Council members prevailed on all issues appealed by the current City of Victoria Mayor and a small group of Victoria residents. The Minnesota Court of Appeals upheld its prior decision in Brown v. Cannon Falls, 723 N.W.2d 31 (Minn. Ct. App. 2006) concluding that the council members may not be removed from office unless the officials have been found to have violated the Open Meeting Law in three or more actions, which was not the case here.
