Anthony Ostlund Shareholder Peter McElligott was recognized for the 7th consecutive year by the Minnesota State Bar Association as a 2022 North Star Lawyer. This recognition is given to attorneys that provide at least 50 hours of pro bono legal services annually to low-income people at no fee, and without expectation of a fee.
In 2022, Peter, along with retired shareholder Steven Pincus, concluded their service as co-counsel with Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid, and its affiliate the Minnesota Disability Law Center, in the federal court civil rights lawsuit Murphy et al v. Harpstead, brought on behalf of a class of disabled individuals living in group homes who have been denied the choice and opportunity to live more independent lives of their own choosing in the community. Work on the case spanned seven years. The team won summary judgement in 2019, a settlement agreement was reached in July of 2022 and was approved by the court earlier this month. Peter and the team were named Attorneys of the Year for their work on that case.
